Silk:
light, strong, lustrous,
it flies beautifully.
The sailcloth is what became of my table fluff. Once I worked out the clothmaking process and shape, my friend and kitemaker, Tim Elverston guided me how to make it fly.
Being of the silken persuasion, it's incredibly lightweight and deceptively strong, despite the fragile appearance. Although the cloth is somewhat porous, it needs just a little wind for the sweetest flight. It's a bit like having a furry little wind beast at the other end of the line ready to play.

This object gives me wings. Beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI love it! Wow, the photos make me feel lighter! Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteSO beautiful!
ReplyDeletei love the last image, how it catches the wind with its feathered ends. it must be even more beautiful in person. seems to transform at different angles, i can't quite grasp the complete shape of it. but doesn't matter, i just want to touch it and feel how strong and soft it is...
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the coolest things that I have ever seen. I wish you could make a flock of them and capture them all in flight in a video.
